L'Enfant de la Haute Mer
Another superb French animated short-film with a water-color effect and beautiful imagery.

The title means 'Child of the High Sea' in English. The story is inspired by the novel "L'Enfant de la Haute Mer" by Jules Supervielle. The film shows a small girl who lives in a village near the sea. It portrays her imaginations. She seems to be waiting for someone, preferably her father, to return from the sea. Without subtitle i could make out this much but the beautiful painting-coming-to-life feel and brilliant production makes me watch it again and again.

[starttext]

papa penguin
An animated music video for "Papa Pinguoin", a song performed in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1980. The video features a penguin dad and his son, little Pigloo. Pigloo is the main character of a Franco-German bubblegum dance musical project. This song was very successful in France, where it topped the singles chart for three weeks and eventually remained on the chart for 27 weeks. In February 2007, the German version of "Papa Pinguoin" climbed to 6th place in the German hit parade, partly due to the huge success of the video clip broadcast on RTL. The French version was sung by Heidi, while the German version was sung by Sara and Kerstin. The music was composed by prolific duo Ralph Siegel and Bernd Meinunger, who are normally associated with Germany as a composer-lyricist combination.

The song is about the fantasy life of the title character - a bored penguin who wants to leave the south pole. The singers describe his desire to fly like a seagull and travel around the world, listing various places he visits in his imagination. The song ends with the penguin's realisation that life "on the ice floe" is not as bad as he had thought, so he "burns his suitcase" to signify that his desire to travel is over.

barrel of fun
An episode from the Pingu series, produced in 1990, featuring Pingu the penguin and his friend Robby, the seal playing with a barrel.

Robby found a barrel that is half covered with planks, like a sledge near some ruins. Pingu comes around and he and Robby play with the sledge-barrel. They go down a long and winding hill twice - almost crashing into a sculpture both times. Third time they lose control and Robby falls off and Pingu crashes into the sculpture which collapses over him, trapping him inside. Robby goes for help, and gets an emergency paramedic and they both rescue Pingu. (source http://en.wikipedia.org)

Fin D'ete
A beautiful short animation film made by Patrick Harboun, Ronan Le Fur and Joaquim Montserrat while studying at Supinfocom, a French CG animation school. They wanted to create a contemplative movie, based upon moods and colors that they had in mind than a heavy storyline. They worked on it for 6 months. The background music was composed by Christophe Julien.

They story is about a woman who decides to stay back in an abandoned city in the midst of a tropical storm. The different shades of color is worth seeing. Its one of my favorite films.

ugokie ko ri no tatehiki
A Japanese classic animation directed by Ikuo Oishi, one of the pioneers of Japanese animation. The title means "Fox and Asian racoon’s cheat on each other". It was released in 1933. The drawing style shows the influence of Max Fleischer on early Japanese animation.

It is the story of two animals, the fox and the tanuki (Asian racoon), usually associated in Japan with trickster magic. The fox frightens away a farmer walking in the woods and then disguises himself as a samurai and makes his way to a temple. The temple is haunted by a young tanuki who also has the magical power of disguising himself into any form. The tanuki tried to frighten the fox/samurai away but all his attempts failed. He then calls his guardian and together they fought against the fox.
